Stonehenge’s mysterious Altar Stone had roots in Scotland
An analysis of the stone's minerals rules out a Wales origin, as originally suspected
Researchers have traced a large stone that lies flat in the center of Stonehenge, called the Altar Stone (seen here in the center of the image with two other Stonehenge rocks lying on top of it), to a rock source in northeastern Scotland, at least 750 kilometers from the ancient British monument.
